CES 2018: The Smart Home of the Future Is Here
Released on 01/12/2018
Here at CES in 2018 it is more clear than ever
that the smart home of the future is here.
People hate folding laundry so this is kind of
a game changer in the connected smart home.
This is a laundry folding robot from Seven Dreamers.
It works like this.
You open the bottom drawer,
you throw your laundry in,
and that's pretty much it.
Inside there's a robotic arm
that uses machine learning to decide which type of clothes
need to be folded in which type of ways.
When it's done,
your folded items come out here.
But that still takes 15 minutes to fold
a single piece of clothing.
So a great forecast of what we might see in years to come,
maybe not the thing that you wanna buy in 2018.
LG's vision for the home of the future
means that all of your electronics
are connected to one another,
from the dishwasher to the washing machine,
to the refrigerator.
Think of this as sort of the hub
of all of your smart appliances.
So it connects with things like an air purifier
or an air conditioner
or even the stove.
You can actually send a recipe to the oven
and this will preheat the oven
to the appropriate temperature.
You can also use it to talk to Alexa.
Alexa, ask LG to start the air purifier.
[Alexa] Okay, your air purifier is on.
You can check the air quality of the room in a few minutes.
It's not just appliances,
robotics are coming to the smart home in a huge way.
We've seen robots that play with your kids,
robots that can do your chores like mowing your lawn,
pretty soon even your dog is going to be a robot.
Even just a few years ago,
the idea of a smart home was totally futuristic.
But now that everyone has Alexa and Google assistant
and tons of other platforms in their home,
every home is smart.
This is just the next generation of smart home products
which will continue to make our lives easier
and more connected.
