Audi's first plug-in hybrid combines a turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and a six-speed, dual-clutch gearbox. It has 350Nm of torque; enough to push it from 0-100kph in 7.6 sec, and a top speed of 222kph. Its average consumption is 62.5kpl and has CO<sub>2 </sub>emissions of just 37g/km. £29,950 (with £5,000 government grant)

Sensors in the Van Hawks alert the rider of blind-spot dangers using haptic feedback in the handlebars -- which also have LEDs that sync with your smartphone's navigation. $1,249

The JumPack is a 7,500mAh battery that can jump-start your car or recharge your devices. It features two built-in jump leads and a USB port with a 2.1-amp output. £80

Philips' newest Hue lamp can be unplugged for three hours of on-the-go glow. Teamed with the Hue Bridge, it's fully controllable via smartphone. £100

The Edyn will give even the clumsiest cactus-killer green fingers. It tracks light, humidity, temperature, soil nutrition and moisture, then uses its app to advise you what to plant. It will monitor conditions and ping updates to your smartphone when it’s time to harvest your crops. $99

This security camera allows you to monitor your home when you're away. You can pan, tilt and zoom using its smartphone app, and it comes with infrared night vision. £90

Once you've laid down up to 800m of wire to define your garden's borders, this robotic mower will do the rest. It has a 25W motor on each wheel, a 56-blade cutter and accident-preventing bump sensors. £2,298
