Twitch, the video livestreaming service, is launching a new cookery channel.
Twitch Food will highlight popular cookery streamers like DomesticDan, WorkingChef and CookingForNoobs, all of whom gathered relatively small but dedicated followings for their cookery content.
To celebrate the launch of the cookery channel Julia Child's iconic series The French Chef will be streamed for four days straight. The stream starts at 2pm PDT (9pm GMT) on 15 March.
The cookery launch echoes the the marathon streaming of The Joy of Painting when Twitch's Creative channel debuted in October 2015. At the time, over five million people watched the Bob Ross painting mountains and happy accidents.
Bill Morrier, head of Twitch's creative department, described Julia Child as the "precursor to Twitch's social cooking movement". "It makes The French Chef a great reminder of how visionary she was," he said. "To put it in terms our community can relate to, Bob Ross is the Julia Child of painting".
Twitch is home to many creative streams. In 2013, Twitch's VP of marketing Matthew DiPietro told WIRED that the variety of content on the site was "staggering". "You never know what the streaming community will do," he said.
