The video-sharing app TikTok has removed a user account which was publicly shaming potential paedophiles. The people behind the account – @PervertProductions – had set up a page on a dating app pretending to be an underage child to lure potential paedophiles into the open and shame them on camera. When Guardian Australia asked TikTok about the account, it was removed from the platform within a day as it glorified risky behaviour.
“We also do not permit users to encourage others to take part in dangerous activities, and we remove reported content or behaviour that violates our guidelines,” a spokeswoman for TikTok said. New South Wales police have said that people should not try to take the law into their own hands, and if they suspect someone of predatory behaviour they should call law enforcement.
Final Fantasy VII has been completely reconstructed in 2020 remake
The remake of Final Fantasy VII is more than just nostalgia. The game has been completely rebuilt with updated graphics, a full voice cast and an expanded story. Reviewers have been impressed with the reimagined combat, with elements borrowed from Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts. It’s a blend of action and tactical gameplay to allow for decent battles without making the game too action-heavy. The enemies are also more challenging to put fans to the test. 23 years after the original was released, a demo has been made available today for PS4 with the full version available from April 10.
The Invisible Man proves films don’t have to have huge budgets to top box office
When the first trailer for the Sonic movie was released, fans hated the design of the blue hedgehog so much that the studio spent a reported $5 million re-animating it. Now Sonic has been bumped off the top box office spot by a new release – The Invisible Man. The science-fiction horror film sees The Handmaid’s Tale’s Elisabeth Moss as a woman who is being abused by her supposedly-dead ex-boyfriend. Her friends can’t see him, so they believe she has gone mad, but when she is alone he stalks and attacks her. The film only had a budget of only $2m more than the Sonic re-animation at a total of $7m, but managed to gain a $49.2m worldwide box office on its opening weekend.
Google Stadia is floundering because it isn’t paying developers enough money
Last year Google launched its ambitious new project to take over the gaming sector. Google Stadia was the result of years of planning and months of hype, but a report from Business Insider has said it’s not doing as well as expected largely due to the lack of games on the platform. There are only 28 games currently on offer – reportedly because Google isn’t paying developers enough money to make their games available on Stadia, and they don’t trust the company in the long term. Google says another 120 games are scheduled to appear on Stadia this year, but as it isn’t providing prominent developers enough incentive to sign over their work, it doesn’t look like a lot of big titles will be on there soon.
