After spending eight years reviving Polaroid's old film formulas and restoring their classic instant cameras, The Impossible Project has broken out with its own model - the first new camera in more than 20 years to be created for the original instant film format.
Designed by Swedish electronics company Teenage Engineering, the I-1 gets serious about instant photography, including a ring flash - the first on a camera of this type - which combines eight focused long-range LEDs with four diffuse ones to prevent washed-out portraits.
Advanced features such as manual control over shutter speed and aperture are offered through the first companion app for an instant camera, and the point-and-shoot design beloved of Polaroid aficionados is preserved in a simple rubber-feel body which incorporates a mechanical viewfinder alongside automatic focus and exposure setting.
Whether amateur or advanced, experimentation is encouraged with app-delivered advice and tools for creative techniques, including light painting and double exposure. £229
