Lara Croft, arguably gaming's most well known heroine, has gone through a number of changes in her 17-year history -- from Tomb Raider on Sega Saturn to her "Reborn" itteration in the newTomb Raider, coming to current consoles on 5 March.
The grave-robbing badass has shouldered the burden of being a video game character, a sex symbol, a Playboy model, a movie star and a road in Derby. She's been rebooted twice, changed development studios once and appeared on pretty much every console since the Saturn. Revisiting a well established fan-base held some risks for the new game's writer Rhianna Pratchett, who wanted to show how Lara became the crypt nicker we're so familiar with.
But while the new game, which features a bruised and battered 21-year-old Lara covered in blood and dirt, might be her most radical shift yet, Croft is no stranger to redesigns and rethinks, as Wired.co.uk found out during a Q&A with her designers at Crystal Dynamics. Here's the history of Lara Croft in pictures.
