Welcome to WIRED: The Connected Home. For anyone familiar with consumer technology, it is clear that we are in Model T Ford country with regards to internet of things devices. But there is huge demand to have your coffee machine know your every whim, and there are still plenty of connected contenders worthy of consideration.
Take the Pebble Time smartwatch as a signpost: around 78,000 backers pledged more than $20 million for the connected wearable. The Smart robot companion Jibo has similarly just raised $25 million in its Series A round. Even a washing machine can get online. And, as Katie Collins outlines, smart devices will get only more impressive. Today's Model Ts of tech are blazing a trail that's well worth investigating.
