The best business brains announced for WIRED Smarter

Thirteen new speakers from companies including Google, ASOS and Tenable announced for WIRED Smarter, a new kind of conference taking place at London’s Kings Place on Tuesday, October 9

A roster of exciting speakers has today been announced for WIRED Smarter, a different kind of conference taking place at London’s Kings Place on Tuesday 9th October. As the event looms, leaders from across business, technology and academia are set to join an already-star-studded catalogue of participants.

Amit Yoran, CEO of Tenable, a leading cybersecurity startup, will be telling the story of his company’s success, alongside talks from Cliff Cohen, chief information officer at ASOS, and Florence Diss, head of EMEA commerce partnerships at Google.

Yoran oversees Tenable’s strategic direction as the company empowers organisations the world over to minimise their cybersecurity risk in an increasingly digital global ecosystem. Cohen, meanwhile, is responsible for technological strategy and delivery for online retailer ASOS’ 18 million customers around the world, while at Google, Diss delivers partnerships including Maps, Geo, Wallet and Ads.

WIRED Smarter harnesses the best of WIRED’s expertise in retail, energy, money and security. Curated by WIRED’s award-winning editorial team, the event looks to understand the changes happening across industries and help attendees in remaining ahead of the curve. Make no mistake: the world of business is being disrupted – by blockchain, AI, cybersecurity and fintech – and Smarter aims to act as a guiding light in meeting these industry-specific changes and challenges head-on.

Joining Diss, Yoran and Cohen are no fewer than ten further speakers, who bring depth and variety to an already rich list of speakers. Emilie Colker is executive director of design and innovation firm IDEO, which works with businesses to deliver “click-to-brick” experiences and digital transformations.

She will be joined by Kerry Liu, co-founder and CEO of AI platform Rubikloud. Liu has driven the company’s path towards being one of the world’s largest AI platforms for large retailers, helping them to centre the customer in what they provide.

Margarete McGrath, as Dell EMC Enterprise’s chief digital officer, works with clients to support their ‘digital transformation’. Dr. Jan Wurzbacher is the founder of Climeworks which opened the world’s first negative emissions plant – capturing CO2 at a geothermal plant in Iceland and turning it into rock – in 2017.

Also speaking will be Stephen Fitzpatrick, CEO and Founder of OVO Energy, which launched the world’s first commercially available electric-vehicle-to-grid charger in partnership with Nissan. Martin Anderlind, head of business development at Northfolt, which wants to manufacture the world’s greenest lithium-ion batteries at a global scale, helped by Sweden’s abundant hydro power.

Finally, joining this array announced today are Christoph Ostermann, Founder and CEO, Sonnen, the largest supplier of home energy storage in Europe; Keyu Jin, a professor at the London School of Economics researching globalisation and the Chinese economy; and Raman Bhatia, head of digital at HSBC.

This full and diverse list joins an impressive range of already-announced speakers, which includes Beth Comstock, former vice chair of General Enterprise, Cal Henderson, CTO and co-founder of Slack, Werner Vogels, VP and CTO of Amazon, Diane Coyle, professor of public policy at Cambridge University and Imran Gulamhuseinwala OBE, a trustee at the Open Banking Implementation Entity, to name but a few.
