Video shows Tesla's Ludicrous Mode beating Faraday Future's 0-60 speed claims

The new update to the Model S makes it go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.389 seconds - faster than Faraday Future's FF91 model

When electric car startup Faraday Future unveiled its new FF91 model at CES 2017, the company claimed it was the fastest electric car in production, capable of going zero to 60mph in 2.39 seconds.

It bolstered these claims by showing footage of the FF91 beating the Tesla Model S in a drag race.

Tesla Racing Channel has now hit back. In a recent real-world track test video of the Tesla Model S P100D, with the Ludicrous Plus mode update unlocked, the sedan is shown hitting 60mph in 2.389 seconds.

Tesla’s Ludicrous Mode adds a so-called smart fuse to a car’s battery pack to improve the responsiveness of the motors and boost the car’s acceleration. It’s a $10,000 option for the Model S and Model X.

The update means Tesla’s Model S P100D can lay claim to being the world’s third fastest production car, behind the Porsche 918 Spyder (2.2 seconds) and LaFerrari (2.4 seconds), while boss Elon Musk has said a race-ready version featuring the update can hit 62mph in just 2.1 seconds.

Faraday Future's model is the first production car the startup has unveiled and it is yet to be released. The company announced at CES the new vehicle should be available in 2018. There have been mounting reports the company is in crisis, though.

Earlier this week, Business Insider reported it had interviewed eight people with "intimate knowledge of Faraday Future's business" and described the company "a business in shambles".

Faraday's global CEO left before CES and there are said to be "millions of dollars in unpaid bills".
