Surreal swimmers: unwind your mind with the ultimate exotic pet

But this 25-litre tank (above), designed by San Francisco-based Alex Andon, has jellyfish safety at its heart -- a laminar-flow system circulates the water in a controlled swirl, nudging the jellies to the middle of the tank and away from danger.

Andon funded his project through Kickstarter, and the finished product costs $460 (£300). He supplies US customers with mail-order Moon jellyfish for $39 each (£25), shipped in Styrofoam coolers; a six-month food supply of frozen brine shrimp is $54 (£35).
