Well, Amazon has nabbed the international rights to the forthcoming Star Trek series about Jean-Luc Picard's next chapter. Also, Avengers: Endgame is still dominating the box office, and we have new trailers for HBO's Watchmen series and It Chapter Two. Enjoy!
First up, some good news for Star Trek fans who live outside the US: Amazon has picked up the rights to the upcoming Jean-Luc Picard spinoff series currently in the works. Under an agreement with CBS, new episodes of the series will show up on Prime Video within 24 hours after they air on the CBS All Access streaming service stateside. The still-untitled new series will feature Patrick Stewart reprising his iconic role and will also feature The Newsroom's Alison Pill and Penny Dreadful's Harry Treadaway.
In unsurprising news, Avengers: Endgame is still the biggest thing at the multiplex. This past weekend, it retained its No. 1 spot at the US box office. Detective Pikachu, however, did come somewhat close to toppling its reign. Endgame brought in $61.3 million domestically, compared to Pikachu’s $58 million. Endgame has made $2.485 billion worldwide, so it still has the all-time box office champ—Avatar—in its sights.
So, HBO has a new Watchmen series coming. Like the Zack Snyder movie of same name, it's based on the groundbreaking Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons graphic novel, but also promises to "break new ground of its own." Fans will find out if that's true in the fall.
