Stampylonghead, one of the best-known Minecraft YouTube-ers, will be setting up a second channel devoted entirely to education.
The broadcaster, also known as Joseph Garrett, made the announcement as part of the MIPTV conference in Cannes. "We're setting up a new channel with Maker that's going to be purely educational," he said. "I think Minecraft is an amazing platform. One, the fact that it is an open sandbox to do whatever you want in it, and two, everyone's playing it, and if you're not playing it, your kids are playing it. "If you take their engagement and put it into a more productive space like education or the arts, they're going to be involved in that, they're going to be engaged."
Garrett's current channel has more than 2 million subscribers and brings in over 150 million views per month. It's part of the Maker Studios network which was recently acquired by Disney in a deal worth just over £300 million.
Garrett and Maker have yet to announce a launch date for the new channel.
