Meet Sony's £400 camera lens for iPhone and Android: the QX100

Alongside a new flagship Android phone, Sony has revealed two camera lenses it wants you to strap to your iPhone or Android device.

There are two models: the DSC-QX100, a 20-megapixel wide-angle lens with an Exmor R CMOS image sensor and 3.6x optical zoom; and the DSC-QX10, an 18-megapixel alternative with a smaller sensor, although a longer 10x zoom.

The two lenses include a battery and connect to an iOS or Android device via Wi-Fi. Once connected, Sony's PlayMemories app can be used to take photos and transfer those photos to your camera roll.

It's an odd offering, and at £399 for the QX100 and £179 for the QX10, not that affordable either, even if the pictures are essential the same quality as one would expect from Sony's generally impressive compact shooters and NEX cameras.

Bonus facts: you can hold the lens in one hand and the phone in the other, like a remote viewfinder, and they also record HD video.

It's definitely an enthusiast product rather than a mainstream offering, but would you want to strap one of these to your iPhone?

Both models will be available in the UK at the end of September.
