Elizabeth Varley is No 10's east London startups insider.
Name: Elizabeth Varley
Occupation: CEO of TechHub
Location: London
Why she matters: She's the voice of a new generation of entrepreneurs "I'm a communicator and a connector," says Elizabeth Varley. "I enjoy seeing people coming together, because what comes out of that alchemy is usually much more than just the sum of the parts."
Varley, 34, is CEO and cofounder with Mike Butcher of TechHub, a space for tech startups in Old Street, east London. She uses her position to give a voice to the tech community -- for instance, by helping Number 10 revise its plans to build "Tech City" on the Olympics site in east London (see 02.11).
TechHub, which Varley likens to "the glue between government and the entrepreneurs", launched last July, offering affordable Wi-Fi, meeting rooms and events to tech entrepreneurs. She already has plans to create TechHubs in Berlin, San Francisco and China. " Silicon Valley is not a place, it's a state of mind," she says. "If you are surrounded by others who also quit their hundred-grand jobs in the City to start up a mobile-app business, you don't feel isolated; you feel you are part of something bigger."https://www.techhub.com/
