Charting the podcast renaissance

We're in a new golden age of podcasting. The success of Serial (40 million downloads, with another series due later this year) has revived interest in the medium. The numbers are stacking up, too: in November 2014, podcasting network Radiotopia raised $620,412 (£412,000) on Kickstarter to fund a new slate of shows, and Apple now ships its Podcasts app with iOS 8, boosting listening (and revenue) figures. "This will be an exciting couple of years for podcasting," says Helen Zaltzman, host of Radiotopia's The Allusionist. "My tech wish is for someone to roll out a Netflix-style recommendation engine for podcasts. It's been a long time coming."
