Panasonic shows off 20-inch Windows 8 tablet with 4K 'Ultra HD' display

Photographers, listen up: this is a 20-inch Windows 8 tablet computer that Panasonic thinks you'll go nuts for.

On display at CES, this monster of a machine sports a screen resolution of 3,840x2,560 pixels, with a pixel density of 230ppi -- only slightly short of the iPad's Retina Display, which clocks in at 264ppi.

The clarity and sharpness was incredible when Wired.co.uk got hands-on time this week, as were its viewing angles thanks to the use of an IPS panel. It takes the resolution being pushed by Sony, Samsung, LG and the like for their Ultra HD TV sets, and squishes it into a 20-inch form factor. It's pretty stunning.

Inside the 10mm-thick (0.4-inch) chassis is an Intel Core i5 processor running at 1.8GHz, up to 16GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD, and Nvidia GeForce graphics. It runs Windows 8 Pro and supports digital pens as well as up to ten simultaneous multitouch inputs.

On the downside, it weighs 2.4 kilos and the battery life is a rather low two hours. There is also no release date known, or a price.

These relatively niche products have a tendency to show themselves at CES and then never be seen again. Panasonic could have the market to itself though, as we've seen no other manufacturer at CES showing off a tablet computer of this scale.
