From 4 April EA's distribution platform Origin will be switching to a digital-only business model for PC and Mac games.
The store currently offers users the ability to buy physical copies of games like Titanfall, SimCity,
Battlefield 4 and The Sims 3.
As per the official announcement, 99 percent of the store's users are only making use of the digital download options for those platforms so the majority of Origin's customers shouldn't be affected by the news.
The statement adds: "But if you're that 1 percent who still desires a physical collection, we want to let you know that Origin won't be able to fulfil that need beginning 4 April. We'll still be here when you transition your gaming habits to the wonders of digital downloads.
To clarify the move, Charlie Sinhaseni, PR manager at Maxis for
The Sims 4 added that "we're still putting out boxed versions of our games, just not through Origin".
EA appears to be in the process of reworking Origin and recently also announced a game giveaway scheme.
