O2 customers get free London Underground internet

O2 has joined forces with Virgin Media to allow its customers free access to Wi-Fi on connected London Underground platforms.

The Virgin Media internet coverage on the Tube was introduced during the Olympics as an open service to any traveller wishing to connect but later switched to free only for customers of Virgin, EE and Vodafone. Users on other networks had to pay a small connection charge daily to use the internet underground.

As of June 2013, O2 customers will be automatically registered for the free service and will be able to access the internet without signup or password.

The service provider also noted that customers with access to the internet but no phone signal would be able to make and receive calls as well as sending texts and retrieving voicemail via O2's TU Go app.

Three is now the only major service provider whose customers are unable to access the internet underground free of charge.
