Amazing new images released of London's Crossrail tunnels

Crossrail is now more than 60 percent complete, with more than 23 miles of train tunnels carved out under London. To mark the milestone Crossrail has released ten stunning new images of the work going on beneath the streets of the capital.

Nearly 90 percent of tunnels are now complete with six of Crossrail's eight giant tunneling machines now in retirement.

The construction of ten new stations throughout central and southeast London is also more than half complete.

More than 10,000 people are working directly on Crossrail at 40 construction sites. Over the coming months tunneling will continue as Crossrail starts work on fitting out the new stations and tunnels.

Due to open in 2018, Crossrail will increase London's rail capacity by 10 percent and bring an extra 1.5 million people to within 45 minutes of central London.
