When you think of Leatherman, you probably think of its nifty multitools packed with pliers, knives, bottle openers, and other things you might need while camping, soldering, or drinking (or all three). In 2015, Leatherman announced its Tread line of products that put its famous multitool implements into a band that wraps around your wrist.
This week, the company announced its first timepiece, the Tempo Tread Watch. Like the original Tread band, the Tempo features stainless steel links that can each be equipped with interchangeable tools like screwdrivers, SIM card picks, and hex wrenches. Each tool doubles as a link on the band, and you can pick from a variety of tools based on your needs. It lets you tell the time and carry your utilities without doubling up on wrist decor.
The watch is shielded by a sapphire crystal (on the stainless steel option only), and it has glow-in-the-dark hands and hour markers. It's water resistant for up to 200 meters, and it's TSA-friendly, so all your handy tools can accompany you on all your travels without any hiccups.
In the box you'll get six links with the tools like hex drives, square drives, and screwdrivers. There's also a few other tools you can add to the band like box wrenches and pozi drives. You'll be able to adjust the size of the band to accommodate your wrist by changing your link choices and wristband size in quarter-inch and half-inch increments.
It won't be out until November, and at $575, it's not cheap. If you're looking for a more affordable multi-tool to wear while you're on the go, Leatherman also announced the Tread LT, a slimmer and lighter version of the original band.
Just like its predecessor, the LT comes in stainless steel and black, and packs screwdrivers, cutting hooks, wrenches, and hex drives into the bands. You can add or rearrange the tools to best suit your needs, and the clasp even has a bottle opener for party emergencies. At $175 it offers most of the same features as the older Tempo.
