Jaguar has unveiled a sedan with ‘supercar performance’ in the form of the XE SV Project 8.
The car, from Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations (SVO), packs a 600PS 5.0-litre V8 engine and is the firm’s most powerful road-legal car to date.
A heavily camouflaged prototype recently took its first test run at the famous Nürburgring track in Germany.
"The time is right for SVO to produce the most extreme performance road car in the history of Jaguar," said John Edwards, MD of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations. "The SVO team is possessed by the spirit of performance and committed to creating the most thrilling driving experience imaginable."
Following the launch of the Jaguar F-TYPE Project 7 in 2014, the new model will become the firm’s second Collectors’ Edition vehicle.
"Our clients worldwide were thrilled by the F-TYPE Project 7," continued Edwards. "The new XE SV Project 8 takes aerodynamics and performance engineering to another level – it is conceived for enthusiasts and the most discerning collectors. The price for such an extreme performance sports car available in strictly limited numbers will reflect that."
This price is yet to be confirmed, though. What we do know is that the car will be limited to 300 units worldwide with all the new vehicles being hand-assembled at SVO’s technical centre in Coventry.
The Project 8 will make its public debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex on 30 June 2017 and full specifications will be released two days earlier on the Jaguar website.
The Project 8 is the latest in a series of major launches for the company. In April, Jaguar introduced an ‘entry-level’ version of its iconic F-Type. Unveiled at the New York Motor Show, the new F-Type is the first in the range to be available for less than £50,000.
In November last year, the carmaker revealed the final version of its I-Pace five-seater electric SUV with a predicted range of 500km+ on a single charge.
