GoPro has unveiled a new budget action camera designed to appeal to amateurs looking to document the extremities of their lives, building-in Wi-Fi streaming and advanced features for a relatively affordable price tag.
At £169.99, the new Hero+ slots into GoPro's current product lineup at the lower end between the Hero (£109.99) and Hero+ LCD (£249.99).
Specs-wise the new cam is very similar to the Hero+ LCD, but as you can probably guess there's no touchscreen with this budget alternative.
But what you do get for your money is 1080p, 60-frames-per-second (FPS) and 720p, 60 FPS video recording and 8MP single photos. You also get Bluetooth and Wi-Fi streaming, which means you can live-stream footage to a mobile device.
This latest addition means that GoPro may soon not just be the brand of choice for extreme sports enthusiasts with big wallets and professional camera skills, but for amateurs keen to capture video of a holiday or sporting event without the stress of carrying such an expensive piece of kit with them.
And it's no surprise GoPro felt the need to refresh the lower end of its product line-up given growing competition in the action cam space from the likes of TomTom and Sony.
In other GoPro news, the brand has also slashed the price of its tiny Hero4 Session down to £249.99. Another step in the right direction toward appealing to a more mainstream, cash-strapped market.
