Hydroflex's fibreglass-and-resin skateboards are built using techniques Rouven "Bufo" Brauers, the company's founder, pioneered for surfboards. His laminating technique embeds aircraft-grade fibreglass into a foam core, solving a perennial problem. "Surfing happens in the warm," explains CEO Rich Ciesco. "The board heats up and cools down." Over time, the fibreglass detaches, sapping springiness, but the lighter Hydroflex decks remain springy.

Ciesco's goal is to expand production via Kickstarter: "We've got three moulds, and we're working on our fourth." Gnarly.
