Multiple FlappyCoin currencies launch. Fight!

A group of London-based IT professionals are set to launch Flappy Coin -- yet another cryptocurrency.

According to the founders, writing on BitCoinTalk.org, "The aim of the Flappy Coin is to make a fresh difference in the current market. We want to create a stable, reliable coin that can be trusted. We want to promote what we call 'Flappy Bird' ethos -- the concept that even a single person can make a massive impact to the world."

Mining of the currency is scheduled to begin over the next few days.

However, it already has competition from another Flappy Coin, which went live on 14 February. A post detailing this alternative FlappyCoin cites the former FlappyCoin's website -- flappycoin.org -- is "not associated" with it, and that the domain will be "claimed back" soon.

Disconcertingly, flappycoin.org warns of fake FlappyCoins. "Beware of FAKE FlappyCoin - our coin is not released YET. Stay tuned!"

Which is the true FlappyCoin then, one might ask? A good question, and one that has no good answer. In the world of "Quick, there's a new meme over there -- create a cryptocurrency for it!", there are seldom laws governing duplication.

Welcome to the internet. It's a headspinner sometimes.

I have contacted the creators of FlappyCoin to try and shed some light on the matter. I will update this story in due course, should I hear back.
