Eve Online bloodbath incurred losses of up to £200,000

Eve Online is no stranger to massive space wars but the recent

Bloodbath of B-R5RB saw players inflicting up to £200,000-worth of damage on one another.

The battle was triggered when a system in a strategically critical region of the game's universe known as B-R5RB missed a sovereignty bill payment leaving the system up for grabs.

As the account of events on the official Eve blog explains: "Unlike nearly every other large scale super-capital engagement up until this point, both sides thought they could win. They continued trying to get every single pilot into system with the most powerful warships they could bring to bear. After a few hours, the field was being lit up by doomsdays and the glittering hulls of hundreds of Titans and Supercarriers and thousands of Dreadnaughts and Carriers and smaller ships."

The Titans are the largest ship class in Eve and take thousands of hours to produce. The most Titans destroyed in a single battle was previously 12, but the fighting over the system in B-R5RB obliterated 75 of the ships.

Developer CCP has added a permanent site to the game to commemorate the event and "to highlight the bravery and commitment of our players to their craft of blowing up spaceships".

The in-game economic impact of the conflict is 11 trillion ISK.

Using a PLEX conversion (PLEX are valuable in-game items which provide more game time to players) that figure equates to around $300,000-$330,000 (£180,000-£200,000).
