"I don't like pictures that are too realistic, where you can see straight away what's going on," says Swiss photographer Luca Zanier. For the past two years, he has visited more than 50 nuclear-power plants, public water supplies and oil refineries in Switzerland and Germany for his photo documentary Space and Energy. Using an ALPA 12 large-format digital camera, Zanier can take up to three hours to compose a single shot. "I want to capture the aesthetics, colours and shapes of these complex environments," he explains. "The audience gets a sense of what is portrayed only after reading the captions."
