1. Quatreau Tap

Why settle for just hot and cold water when you can also pour filtered and sparkling from the same spout? Use the touchscreen display to dispense fizzy via a hidden CO2 canister, and pre-set to a fixed temperature, so there's no more waiting for water to heat up. From £2,999

2. Triby Fridge Memo

Few messaging systems work as well as a note on the fridge. But with its combination of hands-free WiFi calling between family members, voice message service and 2.9in e-ink display capable of showing handwritten messages sent via the app, the magnet-backed Triby leaves the Post-it Note rather unstuck. $199

This app-controlled bean-to-cup filter machine can brew as you arrive home and is fully customisable from wherever you are. It's even IFTTT compatible, so if your fitness tracker says you slept badly, it can knock up a double-strength espresso to get you through the morning. £149

App-controlled appliances are often seen as gimmicky, but sleep-deprived new parents will rejoice at this. Swipe your smartphone and the Swedish Diluo machine will mix up and dispense a full bottle of ready-to-guzzle baby formula in around 20 seconds. £300

A smoke and CO2 detector has no right to be this beautiful. Unlike some alarms that wail at your toaster, the Protect senses danger levels and calmly warns you before blaring. A Michelin-starred must-have, the Thermomix TM5 is no bigger than a juicer, but does the job of ten appliances. It can weigh, mix, chop, mill, knead, blend, steam, cook, whisk, stir and emulsify from the same bowl. It also has a foolproof touchscreen and can supply recipe ideas from an exhaustive list. £925

The Climote app-controlled home thermostat gives the Nest a good run on usability. Specifically designed to replace (and replicate) a traditional boiler clock-timer, its app lets you control individual room-heat, hot water, manage your absence during holidays or just tweak the temperature from your sofa. £299

Immersion circulation wands such as this make it cheap and easy to cook sous vide at home. With a temperature range of 25°C to 99°C it can keep virtually any pan of water at the perfect temperature for hours -- and it's Bluetooth controlled. $179

This crowdfunded mixologist can prepare cocktails from a repertoire of 300 recipes. Drawing drinks from seven friction-sealed compartments, it combines them in ratios specified by the Somabar app. It will even make suggestions based on the ingredients you have to hand. $499
