This week's gear news

The future of Xbox: Microsoft’s next Xbox, “Project Scarlett”, lands autumn 2020 with 8K support, SSD storage and a disc drive. The Scarlett and (almost identical) PS5 teases are to head off the cloud gaming threat and speak of the devil, we play Halo 5 on a phone at E3.

Ikea's £15 Sonos remote: Ikea's SYMFONISK budget Sonos speakers are getting a configurable remote. It’ll cost just £15 when it launches in October. And because it controls regular Sonos kit, it could well be the best thing about the whole collaboration.

Audemars Piguet’s $93,900 GOT watch: AP’s new Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar In White Ceramic would have been perfect for the Night King, had he not been killed, or been real in the first place, or indeed a fan of high-end horology.

Bose’s butt-ugly new cans: We’re not fans of the design for Bose’s Noise Cancelling Headphones 700. Just look at the front view! New drivers, 11 levels of isolation, USB-C charging and 20-hour battery life may sway us when these cans launch end of June, though.

WIRED Recommends: Jackets and juicers

We (just about) survived testing tents in McLaren’s monsoon chamber to review the best waterproof jackets, walking boots and umbrellas.

Deal of the week: Get an Echo Dot for £35

This one's worth a look. Amazon's third gen Echo Dot and second gen Echo (down to £70) smart speakers and Kindle Paperwhite e-reader (down to £110) are all on sale this weekend.

The third gen, fabric covered Echo Dot is down from £50 to £35. That's just £15 off, and the Dot is likely to go on sale again as soon as July, but it's still a great price for the Alexa-powered smart speaker.

The Fitbit Ionic is down to £190

This Xbox One S Fortnite edition is £30 off

Currys also has £30 off this purple, Fortnite-flavoured Xbox One S – perfect for celebrating the Project Scarlett news with, perhaps? Still, £199 is a neat price considering you get Tekken 7 and Project Cars 2 bundled in.
