DAHU JOE & JANE

These boots wrap a removable exoskeleton around a rubber-soled moon boot. The inner boots are comfortable for all day wear (you can even drive in them) and the ski boots are rock solid.

The speed lacing works but there isn't space for the loose laces. Otherwise these would be perfect. 9/10 €590 dahusports.com

APEX MC-2 CARBON

This versatile hybrid is a snowboard boot that becomes a ski boot by slotting into a carbon-fibre cuff.

With its tension-wire Boa Focus lacing and 18 points of closure, this is the most comfortable ski boot WIRED has tested -- and one of the most responsive. Shedding the shell is simple, but the external frame feels flimsy. 8/10 $1,036apexskiboots.com
