Apple Pay is now available to to First Direct and HSBC customers in the UK.

Both banks were lined up to support Apple Pay from launch but their availability was delayed at the last minute.

First Direct and HSBC are now included on the list of participating banks on the Apple Pay UK website, alongside American Express, MBNA, Nationwide, NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, Santander and Ulster Bank.

Lloyds has confirmed it will add support for Apple Pay this autumn, with Bank of Scotland, Halifax, M&S Bank and TSB yet to set a date. Barclays, which was the only major UK bank not to initially announce any support for Apple Pay, recently confirmed it would work with the system but has not said when.

Apple Pay, which launched in the UK on 14 July, can be used in a host of high street shops from Boots to Waitrose. Many retailers only support payments up to £20, but this limit should be removed as stores update their contactless payment systems.
