Apple's confirmed 9 Sep event may be a massive one

Apple has announced its much-rumoured 9 September event, at which it is expected the company will reveal a range of new products.

The safe money goes on the iPhone 6, which is anticipated will be larger than the current model.

Consensus amongst industry watchers is that at least one iPhone 6 will measure 4.7 inches (the current iPhone 5s and 5c measure 4 inches). However, a 5.5-inch model is also rumoured to be in the works.

Wearables are rumoured to play a major part of the announcement, with the "iWatch" or "iTime" product (according to recently-discovered patent applications from Apple) taking centre stage. This may be Apple's big bet on the smartwatch game and with iOS 8's introduction of health and fitness monitoring apps that bet only seems ever more clear.

Other products rumoured to be in the works include a 12-inch iPad, an Apple-designed television set and a revamped Apple TV.

Although it doesn't seem likely Apple will want to spread out so many products across its single event, there is a curious fact that makes us question that: the company is using a large venue in San Francisco that it used to launch an extremely important product once before -- the first Mac, in 1984.

With an entirely new product category expected to be revealed, the introduction of a revamped version of its most important existing product, as well as the forthcoming release of a new Mac and iOS operating system, it stands to reason Apple wanted to make this an enormous event.
