WIRED is about many things—technology, culture, business, science. But at its core, beneath it all, we have always been a journal of big ideas. We were founded on an idea, the notion that the digital revolution would fundamentally change the world. Over our 25 years of existence, we brought that idea to the world, championing its power and exploring its ramifications. Along the way, we shared hundreds of other explosive ideas: The long tail. Crowdsourcing. The network economy. The death of the web. And on and on. These mind grenades, as we refer to them (only half-jokingly), have startled and illuminated, provoked and challenged, and shaped how we think about the world—and how to make sense of its transformations.
Today, that mission is more crucial than ever. And so, to celebrate our 25th anniversary, we are launching a new section of our website, dedicated to the kind of intellectual exploration that has always set WIRED apart. It’s called (surprise!) Ideas, and we’ve enlisted eight of our favorite writers and thinkers—people like MIT Media Lab chief Joi Ito, Big Chicken author Maryn McKenna, and financial writer Felix Salmon. Through regular posts, these writers will provide fresh insights into the most crucial issues of our time—gene editing, antibiotic resistance, social media, and cryptocurrencies, just for starters. If you want to move beyond the usual hot takes and dig into the most sophisticated, surprising, and illuminating perspectives, look no further. Because in a world in constant motion, we don’t have a minute to lose.
