As we scrolled through 10,000 cut-price jeans and Ray-Bans in Amazon's "Big Style Sale", we were reminded of the expression used by design genius Dieter Rams: 'weniger aber besser'. Less but better. With that in mind, here's the nine pieces we would pick out: the watch, the jacket, a few fashion sneakers for summer, an affordable running shoe or two. The sale runs until 28 June.
It's Prime Day 2023, so we've uncovered the top discounts. Check out the best Prime Day deals in the UK here.

New Balance 997H, down to £31
The original 997 was a classic early 90s runner and a much-loved staple of casuals culture, with its paired-back colourways, moulded elements and ENCAP cushioning. Proving there's no core like the normcore, this updated H edition keeps the 997's clean heritage styling, but adds Ground Contact EVA midsole technology, so it's a tad more forgiving underfoot. This is not your dad's shoe, but it also kind of is, and that's why we love it.

Vans Asher, down to £31
The Vans checkerboard slip-on – brought to global attention by Sean Penn in 1982's Fast Times at Ridgemont High – is a summer essential and timeless style icon, even if you never actually set foot in a skate park. The original waffle sole and elastic side-seams are still here, but branching out from the classic B/W with some more versatile colour options means you can bust these out for any occasion.

Fingers crossed forward planning for a UK break this year. Eastpak's Trans4 bag is a versatile nylon wheelie bag with one main compartment plus a handy front pocket. Hatley Colour Changing Raincoats, down to £23
Hatley has been making quality stylish children's clothing since the 1980s. And if this were simply a standard 100 per cent polyurethane and PVC-free raincoat it would still be worth recommendation. However, these raincoats for both boys and girls change colour when it rains. We're only sad that they don't do them in adult sizes. And yes, they are fully machine washable.
