Fisher Clinical Services is the biggest packaging and distribution company for pharmaceutical drugs in the world. Dotted around the globe, its 17 vast complexes are operated by lab technicians in protective clothing, and by autonomous machines working in sterile environments and carefully controlled temperatures. Fisher's larger centres, shown here -- in the UK, Switzerland and the US -- each process up to five million test units every three months, preparing and despatching them for clinical trials. From the depths of the US Drug Enforcement Agency's (DEA) vault for controlled drugs in Allentown, Pennsylvania, to the automated warehouse machines in Basel, Switzerland, Wired takes a peek at the production line.
