Melanie Canales

Melanie Canales is a first-generation Peruvian American farmer and beekeeper based in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, on Monacan and Mannahoac lands. Her work focuses on creating healthy relationships between people and their surrounding ecosystem through soil regeneration and food sovereignty. As a 2021 WIRED Resilience Resident, she's interested in stories about land stewardship and the ways communities have started decolonizing agriculture to make it more accessible and sustainable.
