11 Classic Cars to Buy Today (For Those OK With Bankruptcy)

The best and shiniest of what's on offer at the big-time auction at Amelia Island this weekend.

Many a people have called Amelia Island home: American Indian, French, Spanish, British, Mexican, Confederate, American. But this weekend, a new kind of tribe colonizes the 13-mile long barrier island chain on Florida's Atlantic coast: ultra-rich car nerds. The annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance draws 300 pristine vehicles and about 35,000 fancy people to the beachfront paradise for oohing, ahhing, and ogling.

But the rainmaking happens in the auctions that accompany the car show, when the big houses present their wares. Do not question the expensiveness of these precious motors: The privilege to just bid on one of these baubles will cost RM Sotheby’s auction-goers a $300 entrance fee. (They also get official catalogue for their trouble.)

Highlights include a gawgeous 1957 Jaguar XKSS, for those with an extra $18 million hanging around; a *très authentique *1937 Bugatti Type 57S Cabriolet; and, for those with a more modern eye, a cheery, yellow 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari estimated to go for $4.5 million---a steal! If you can’t make it to the rarified event this weekend, we welcome you to scroll through this gallery of some of this year's top offerings, and stroke the screen lovingly. Just remember to give it a gentle scrub afterward.
