Even in an era of constant reboots and remakes, a new Blade Runner film has always seemed as elusive as a unicorn dream: The 1982 classic was plagued by on-set strife and studio squabbling, and while the future-is-noir mystery is now considered a classic, it divided audiences and critics at the time, resulting in a so-so box-office showing. The idea of getting Harrison Ford to once again play Rick Deckard seemed downright batty.
So it's a pleasant surprise that, more than three decades after the original, we'll soon be going back to that neon-lit Los Angeles of the future, courtesy of Blade Runner 2049, the first footage for which you can watch above. Starring Ford and Ryan Gosling---the latter of whom is seen here wandering a mysterious, yolk-yellow landscape, as well as rain-drizzled L.A.---the film takes place thirty years after the original, as an LAPD officer named K (Gosling) attempts to track down Deckard, the original Blade Runner, who's now gone MIA. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, who helmed this year's hit Arrival, the new Blade Runner also stars Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, and Jared Leto. We'll see if K's a replican or a replicant when *Blade Runner 2049 *opens next October.
