Although Issa Rae’s new show on HBO gets compared to other female-driven comedies, it has a unique voice all its own. But that doesn’t mean the Insecure creator isn’t a fan of shows like Living Single, Sex and the City, and Girlfriends.
"I always say that I'm Khadijah from Living Single, but I'm also Miranda from Sex and the City and with Girlfriends, I look at [star] Tracee Ellis Ross as one of the original awkward black girls,” Rae says, referencing her YouTube series. “So it’s hard for me to choose. They all mean too much to me.”
Knowing that she was a fan, WIRED decided to give Rae a pop quiz on her favorite small-screen series. We gave her a bunch of quotes from those three shows and asked if she could remember the origins of each. Find out how she did in the video above.
