A PlayStation 4 Upgrade Is Coming, But You Won’t See It at E3

Sony tells the Financial Times that it will add 4K resolution support to a new model of PlayStation 4, but it won't bring it to the E3 Expo this week.

Sony has confirmed the development of an upgraded model of PlayStation 4, codenamed "Neo," to the Financial Times. But, it says, it won't bring the new machine to the E3 Expo next week. Originally reported by Kotaku, the upgraded PlayStation 4 is said to feature 4K graphical output and other upgrades.

This is a classic tactic, if you haven't noticed—the gaming world is abuzz with the stories of upgraded PlayStations and Xboxes, so Sony needs to get out in front of the story if showing the new box off isn't going to be part of its E3 plans.

Microsoft could still announce a more powerful Xbox (codenamed "Scorpio") at its E3 press briefing on Monday, a message that will go unanswered by Sony—for now.
