If you've heard anything about the new movie 10 Cloverfield Lane it's that ... well, actually, you probably haven't heard squat about 10 Cloverfield Lane. Like its spiritual predecessor Cloverfield, also produced by J.J. "Must Not Sleep" Abrams, most of the plot of the movie has been as guarded as a Taylor Swift reaction. The trailers told us there were three people in it and some bad stuff is going down, but that's about it.
But with 10 Cloverfield Lane, keeping all the other things in the Mystery Box worked brilliantly. All the enigma, though, makes it very hard to review—revealing anything means it will no longer be a twist. It would be wonderful to be able explain why director Dan Trachtenberg's debut feature is squirm-and-jump-in-your-seat fun, but doing so would actually make it less fun by ruining the surprise. So here we are.
What we will say, though, is that 10 Cloverfield Lane stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Michelle) and John Gallagher Jr. (Emmett) as two people holed up—one willingly, the other less so—with John Goodman (Howard) after a Very Bad Thing has happened. It could be that the end is nigh; it could be that Howard is nuts. What happens beyond that we won't spoil here, but check out our video review of the movie above.
