After months of rumors and speculation, it's finally finally official: Creed director Ryan Coogler will helm Marvel’s upcoming Black Panther movie.
Prior to directing the (very excellent) Creed, Coogler also wrote and directed the 2013 Sundance Film Festival fave Fruitvale Station. His take on Black Panther, which stars Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, is scheduled to hit theaters in 2018, after the titular character is introduced in Captain America: Civil War this spring.
"We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family," Marvel president Kevin Feige said in a statement. "The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct Black Panther. Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T'Challa’s story to life."
Black Panther hits theaters Feb. 16, 2018.
