Apparently, 'tis the season for next year's superhero movies to remind you that they exist before everything shuts down for the holidays—or, rather, "shuts down for Star Wars." New trailers, new posters, and rumors of Marvel guest stars galore. This, my friends, is the highlight of the last week's superhero movie news.

SUPER IDEA: Does Whatever a Guest Star Can

As if the release of the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War wasn't enough, now there's a rumor that Captain America and Iron Man will be appearing in another Marvel movie before the next Avengers release—namely, Sony's Spider-Man reboot. It's all because Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans have said that they're about to shoot in Atlanta again sometime soon and Spider-Man is prepping to shoot there next year. Tenuous? Perhaps, but stranger things have happened, especially when you consider that Spider-Man makes his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Civil War...
Why this is super: If the third Sony Spider-Man is looking to differentiate itself from the Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield days, bringing in some high-profile Avengers is a pretty great way to do it. Here's hoping this rumor is true.

SUPER IDEA: Dawn of Grimacing

Of course, for those into superhero vs. superhero movies, this has been the best week, with a new Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer released Wednesday night, following an "Exclusive Sneak" released two days earlier.

Why this is super: Civil War might have more superheroes, but it looks like Batman and Superman are definitely going to take the "Silently Frowning At Each Other" award, hands down.

SUPER IDEA: But Why Didn't They Go With "Arse"?

As if to complete a strange promotional trinity, Deadpool also released something new this week: a poster for the UK release of the movie, suggesting that it's time that male heroes finally adopted the brokeback pose that has plagued "strong female characters" for all too long:

Why this is super: If this starts a beefcake trend for movie marketing, superhero audiences will have another reason to be grateful to Ryan Reynolds beyond simply not making a second Green Lantern movie.

SUPER IDEA: The Mutant Report

Speaking of Fox's X-Men franchise, producer Simon Kinberg gave an in-depth update of the current status of the many spin-off movies to Collider recently, revealing that a new Deadpool trailer is being planned for this month, the X-Men: Apocalypse trailer will be accompanying Star Wars: The Force Awakens in theaters, Gambit might be pushed back from its October 2016 release date because it's currently without a director, and both New Mutants and the final Wolverine are currently in the scripting stage. What, you didn't know that there are five X-Men movies in various stages of production right now? (Well, six, if you count the rumored follow-up to Apocalypse that may or may not be shooting in Canada in 2017.)
Why this is super: With all that going on, it's no surprise that Fox has quietly removed the Fantastic Four sequel from its release schedule. Sorry, Miles Teller fans.

SUPER IDEA: But What If We Called It Thor/Hulk: Ragnarok?

Chris Hemsworth has a very clear idea about what he wants to see when Mark Ruffalo co-stars in the next Thor movie. "I hope it's a Butch Cassidy (and the Sundance Kid) sort of story," he told the New York Daily News, referring to 1969's iconic Paul Newman/Robert Redford buddy movie. "I think those two characters haven't spent a whole lot of time talking to each other on screen (so far in the Marvel movies), so it's something new, I think it would bring something different out of the characters." When asked the inevitable question about whether the Hulk or Thor would win in a fight, he was similarly focused. "Because this movie is called 'Thor,' I have to win this time." Seems fair, I guess.
Why this is super: Given the sturm-und-drang of the earlier Thor movies, the idea of a buddy comedy to round out the trilogy is actually perfect ... as long as you turn it into a three buddy movie, and invite Tom Hiddleston's Loki along for the journey. Hulk can be the muscle, Thor the straight man, and Loki everything else. Who's with me?
