Around here we’re all pop culture junkies, sure. But first and foremost we’re journalists. Or at least that’s what it says on the WIRED masthead. So when a movie comes out like Spotlight, which digs deep on the Boston Globe investigation into sex abuse in the Catholic Church, we get pretty stoked. Such things tend to happen when something brings together our combined passions of movies and hardcore reporting.

Knowing this, it should come as no surprise that we spend quite a bit of time on this week’s episode of The Monitor talking about director Tom McCarthy’s new film. From the performances by Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, and Mark Ruffalo to the airtight script, it was everything we wanted in a movie about journalists.
However, Spotlight isn’t the only thing we’re putting on center stage this week. Netflix’s pseudo-Mr. Show-reboot W/ Bob & David? That’s here. (Snap judgment: It’s good, but it’s too late to keep up with the trends it started.) AMC’s new martial arts show Into the Badlands is in the mix as well, as are our thoughts on the current state of virtual reality.
So plug in why don’t you? We’ve got editors and contributors Peter Rubin, K.M. McFarland, Angela Watercutter, and Charley Locke in the booth and we’ve got some culture—and some Great Moments in Journalism—to talk about.
