Just look at those eyes. They belong to the tarsier, a small primate that can bound 15 feet from tree to tree, hunting primarily insects. Rumor has it that the tarsier was the inspiration for Yoda, and I'm nothing if not a strong believer in rumors. Unfortunately, any number of humanity's ills have put the tarsier in serious danger: deforestation, hunting, etc. Rising awareness of the creature, though, may help keep it from doom.Bruno Morandi/Getty Images

Tomorrow, ladies and gentlemen, is the 100th Absurd Creature of the Week. It's been one hell of a time, so big thanks to you readers and the scientists who've endured interviews with me. In recognition of not getting canceled, this week we've been revisiting our favorite critters, from the deeply unsettling to the funny-looking. But today we're getting cute, with critters that include a snake that can curl up on a quarter and a mammal that may have been the inspiration for Yoda. So enough with all the maiming and parasitizing (for now): These are the animal kingdom's most bizarre yet endearing creatures.

As per the usual, you can browse the full Absurd Creature of the Week archive here. You can also watch the companion show, available here. And if you have an animal you want me to cover, email me at matthew_simon@wired.com or ping me on Twitter (@mrMattSimon).

Now—onward to the unrelenting cuteness.
