Joey Bada$$ released his debut album on January 20, 2015—his 20th birthday. The album hit the top 5 on the Billboard charts, and cemented the MC's reputation as one of the most promising young artists coming out of New York. For the track "Hazeus View," he worked with Kirk Knight, who like Joey is a member of the Brooklyn hip-hop collective Pro Era. In this episode, the two artists break down the process of making the song, how the lyrics reflect Joey’s wide-angle take on religion, and how the beat was inspired by DJ Premier (and specifically, the beat Primo made for the Biggie song "Ten Crack Commandments.")
