Why, hello again.
So, The Monitor took a little bit of a hiatus last week after Labor Day weekend to regroup and catch up on all the movies, TV, and music we’d missed over the long and hot summer. But we’re back now and we’ve got a lot on our minds.
First off, we’re stoked that for the first time in a long time we’re talking about a new M. Night Shyamalan movie and not groaning over it. Yes, The Visit was a return to form for the director and we have just a few thoughts about how and why Shyamalan got it right this time. This week we also have a lot of ideas about what we think—or at least hope—will happen during Sunday’s Emmys telecast. (The emotional struggle of loving both Tatiana Maslany on Orphan Black and Taraji P. Henson on Empire is real.)
We’ve also got a lot to say about R&B artist Roman GianArthur’s surprise album of Radiohead/D’Angelo covers, OK Lady, and our initial reactions to Johnny Depp’s look in Black Mass. So sit back and relax. We have editors and contributors Jordan Crucchiola, Peter Rubin, K.M. McFarland, and Angela Watercutter in the booth this week and we’ve got opinions. Hear us out, won’t you?
