Life on late-night TV has been pretty quiet this last week. It's fine; we're all dealing with Jon Stewart's exit from The Daily Show and that's made it pretty hard to laugh. But there has been one man filling the empty place in our hearts: Seth Meyers. Earlier this week he got the scoop on the Beetlejuice sequel from Winona Ryder herself, and then last night he got this great little moment of Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen dubbing TV for international audiences. Oh, and he's started doing his monologue behind a desk, which is actually quite Stewart-ian of him.
Seth Meyers made a bold move this week of dropping the standing monologue format to open his show in favor of a sitting delivery, something more reminiscent of the "Weekend Update" style. Good call, Seth! The more the late-night shows can distinguish themselves from one another—despite all the hosts looking the same—the better it is for viewers. And speaking of better for viewers: Kristen Wiig is promoting a movie! The Diary of a Teenage Girl comes out this weekend, so Wiig has to travel around and make jokes on TV, and Seth is always at his best when his improv pals stop by. Watch Wiig and Fred Armisen close out the week in TV by teaming up to dub Late Night for overseas audiences, which includes changing some content for the cultural considerations of other countries.
