Cape Watch: Hugh Jackman Wants Your Input for His Last Wolverine Movie

The man who plays Wolverine solicited ideas for what Logan should do in his next movie. He got a lot of responses.

As one chiseled-jawed actor joins a superhero universe, another might be departing, according to rumors. (Of course, rumors also once promised us that we'd get a Miles Morales Spider-Man movie next, and we all know how that turned out.) Meanwhile, Fox is still trying to make Fantastic Four happen, even as Marvel might be recruiting someone well-versed in telling Gretchen that certain things are never going to happen. This, dear readers, is the pick of the week's superhero movie news.

SUPER IDEA: Hugh Jackman Is Open to Suggestions

With just one final Wolverine movie left, Hugh Jackman turned to social media to get some ideas on what to do with it. On Monday, he shared the following request on Twitter:

Within hours, likely already snowed under with ideas, he took to Instagram to cut himself off:

Why this is super: On the plus side, it's kind of great to see how Jackman just throws himself into fandom with ideas like this. On the slightly more snarky side, it's kind of great in a terrible way to see Hugh accidentally end his video just before he actually has the chance to compliment the fans. Either way, good on him!

SUPER IDEA: The Very Model of a Modern Military Gentleman

Well, now it's all-but-official: Chris Pine will be playing Wonder Woman's main squeeze, Colonel Steve Trevor, starting in 2017's Wonder Woman movie. For those who aren't familiar with the character, he's the US Air Force pilot who crash-lands on Paradise Island, introducing our heroine Diana to the concept of a "Man's World" in the first place, before going on to become one of her strongest links to humanity when she leaves her homeland. In other words, he's kind of a big deal.
Why this is super: Depending on how they play Trevor—and there have been a lot of different takes in his 70-plus year comic book career—Pine could be great as a charming, if somewhat bull-headed, romantic foil to Gal Gadot's Amazon Princess. Of course, this'll just make the Star Trek/Justice League fan-fic writers go crazy...

SUPER IDEA: Introducing the Band

As the release date of Fox's revamp of Marvel's First Family edges ever closer, an in-universe presentation from the fictional US Department of Defense sought to explain just what the Fantastic Four can do with their powers, under the guise of weaponizing the team. In case you can't tell a Johnny Storm from a Reed Richards, meet your potential Weapons of Fantastic Destruction:

Why this is super: Well, if nothing else, now we know why the Thing isn't wearing any pants. We remain hopeful about the movie despite the strict review embargo, so this kind of thing is a positive look ahead as opposed to awkward foreboding. We'll see if we turn out to regret that in a week or so.

SUPER IDEA: Regina Strange

Thank the LA Times for confirming a rumor that's been doing the rounds for a while: Namely, that True Detective and, of course, Mean Girls star Rachel McAdams is apparently in the running for the female lead in Doctor Strange. She did say that "it's still super-early days," adding that she doesn't know "where that's gonna go, if it's gonna go anywhere at all." But still, the very possibility that McAdams could play Clea, the sorceress who Stephen Strange is seriously into, is a very exciting one to consider.
Why this is super: Who doesn't like Rachel McAdams? Exactly. Now imagine her existing in a world that looks something like this. That's just far too much fun to consider.

MEH IDEA: Gambit's Movie Cashes Out?

Late Tuesday, The Wrap reported a rumor that Channing Tatum might drop out of the X-Men spin-off Gambit for unknown reasons, with an anonymous source saying that "something is up" with the star's negotiations with studio 20th Century Fox. Given that Tatum appeared at Comic-Con International to promote the movie just weeks ago, either this is a case of a bad rumor, or something has gone south very quickly.
Why this is villainy: While we, personally, can take or leave Gambit as a character, this has seemed like a passion project for Tatum for quite some time. If he really is exiting the movie, there's doubtlessly more going on behind the scenes than we'll ever find out for sure. But it'll be interesting to see if his departure means the role gets recast, or the movie gets dumped for something else altogether. As it is, it's supposed to be out in October next year, which means recasting would have to be done pretty quickly. So, who can do a good Cajun accent?
