Cape Watch: Batman v Superman Is Gonna Be Teeming With Superheroes

It's a Jurassic, Jurassic world now. But that doesn't mean there's not at least some superhero movie news.

Superheroes? Superheroes are over, man. It's all about dinosaurs now. Or maybe Chris Pratt playing a toned-down version of his Star-Lord character from Guardians of the Galaxy. Hell, maybe it's Bryce Dallas Howard that everyone's going crazy for, for all we know. But as the paucity of superhero movie news this week proves, the industry has already moved on following the success of Jurassic World. Don't believe us? Why, here are the highlights of the past week's worth of superhero movie news to prove it.

SUPER IDEA: How Many Justice League Members Will Appear In Batman v Superman?

According to a report on Heroic Hollywood, fans can expect to see no less than five superheroes in the follow-up to Man of Steel. In addition to the eponymous heroes and already-announced Wonder Woman, we'll apparently also meet Jason Momoa's Aquaman in a special prison, and get the briefest of glimpses of Ezra Miller as the Flash as he stops a robbery.
Why this is super: Well, the Justice League movie will be released just a year after BvS, so the idea of laying groundwork for the larger team isn't a bad idea ... but does this mean we should expect to see glimpses of Cyborg and Green Lantern in the movie as well? (Still, at least it's not as packed as Captain America: Civil War, which apparently features every character on Marvel's Earth as it currently stands.)

SUPER IDEA: Doctor Strange Might Have the Best Line-Up Of Actors of Any Marvel Movie

So the upcoming Doctor Strange movie will star Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton, and, Deadline reports, Chiwetel Ejiofor as longtime Strange bad guy Baron Mordo. Ejiofor is reportedly going to play a version of the character that's less evil than his comic book counterpart and is an amalgam of multiple characters from the Doctor Strange series, oddly enough. He'll also, most likely, be acting the hell out of the role.
Why this is super: No matter how much you might love Doctor Strange, we can all agree that this is on track for being the 2016 movie where the actors are so, so much better than the material they've been given. Fingers crossed Marvel adds the subtitle Doing It For The Paycheck as I just sent them an email suggesting.

SUPER IDEA: Gambit of the Apes

If you've been wondering just who could turn Channing Tatum into a suave gentleman thief with superpowers, the answer is apparently Rise of the Planet of the Apes and The Gambler director Rupert Wyatt, who'll direct the Magic Mike actor in 2016's Gambit, based on the Marvel Comics X-Men character.
Why this is super: Wyatt's an interesting choice for the movie, and one that suggests maybe Fox is looking to do something less hyperbolic and overblown with the movie. Between this selection and the fact that Gambit co-creator Chris Claremont wrote the story for the movie, it's definitely turning into one of the more interesting superhero movies of the next few years, if nothing else.

SUPER IDEA: Mysteries Are Common in Suicide Squad

Given the amount of leaked set pics, plot details, and seemingly everything else that's been coming forth from next year's Suicide Squad, it might have seemed that we knew everything that was necessary about David Ayer's adaptation of the DC Comics supervillain team. And then people saw what Common's costume looked like, and suddenly realized that they had no idea who he was playing. Black Manta, as originally rumored? It sure doesn't look like him. The Tattooed Man? Doctor Mist? Bronze Tiger? Fandom is pulling for any and all of the above, but the fact remains: Right now, we really have no idea.
Why this is super: It's nice to be reminded that, despite the many, many leaks we get from movies ahead of time, they're still able to surprise us. Of course, being reminded of that because of a leak is an irony we're well aware of, thank you very much.

SUPER IDEA: The Magnanimous Age of Marvel

Jurassic World might have toppled The Avengers from holding the record for the most successful domestic opening weekend in box office history after just three years, but Marvel Studios isn't holding a grudge against the dinosaur revolution, as a tweet from studio president Kevin Feige revealed Tuesday:

Why this is super: On the one hand, this was a classy move from a studio executive that was entirely unnecessary in the grand scheme of things. On the other, it's an attempt to lull Universal into a false sense of security while Marvel goes about a secret mission to convince the world that Jurassic World never existed. You tell us which one is true—but before you answer, ask yourself: Are you sure you've seen Jurassic World? Are you really sure?
