What do you get when you cross a few British MCs, a Brazilian composer, a Texan country singer, an Italian rapper, and a singer-songwriter from Baltimore? Obviously, you get this week's best music videos! (Yes, for a second we thought we'd get an Indominus rex, too. But no dice.) We're excited to share this global grab bag with you in all of its animated and choreographed and sometimes-violent glory. And if you’re still jonesing for more, we have a few bonus recommendations for you to check out. First, there's "Let It Go" by Malka, in which you can watch a pair of toddler best friends battle a scary humpty dumpty with an assist from a friendly lion. And then there's Data with "Don't Sing". This video is seriously great, and has a fantastic narrative twist; it's also quite NSFW, if you're into that. This video absolutely belongs in our Top 10, but since it came out a month ago we didn't feel quite right about including it in the list of new newness. But don't miss out! We're sorry, Data, for not finding it sooner, and give us another video to love soon!
This mini MegaMan in training wins everything!
So we're not sure if M.I.A. actually conscripted thousands of kids to participate in a choreographed dance and martial arts flash mob, but it sure does look like it, right? Whatever the situation, it's pretty clear that this horde of children will be the most effective army in the world one day. Start stockpiling now for the coming insurgency.
These astronaut aliens will steal then show, and then steal your heart!
Father John Misty's lyrics can be pretty out there, so it stands to reason that this video about a pair of sauced EMTs trying to save a couple from carbon monoxide poisoning (maybe?) would be pretty out there as well.
We don't often include country music videos in our mix, but this clip for Kacey Musgraves' new ditty "Biscuits" is so cute we couldn't resist—thanks in a large part to the knowing glances she casts at those chickens and the muppet violin player.
Director and Takafumi Tsuchiya—aka Takcom—really goes weird in this visual for new artist Noah. The clip's description calls it "digital alchemy," and that will probably make more sense once you watch it. But here's our layman's two cents: It's strange and beautiful.
You might be wondering: "What's so special about this video?" Well, what appears to be just a bunch of rappers mobbin has some surprising prop cameos we couldn't help but shout out. Digestives and cinnamon tea? The Star Wars beanie? Iron Man? Anime? The Batman theme allusion? A wizarding wand? Soft foam alphabet building blocks? A Nerf gun? We might think we know JME and Giggs, but we clearly have no idea.
Well, damn. That was a rich visual experience!
We don't want to patronize Italian rapper Sace or anything, but it's really precious watching this thug wild out in his empty warehouse space. Or is that a basement parking lot? Admittedly, we are not well versed in il rap Italiano, but when he starts tossing out "vaffanculo!" all over the place we start feeling some Chet Haze vibes. Sorry. We're sure you're very scary, Sace. Rage on!
Even if you find Amanda Palmer—formerly of the Dresden Dolls and currently of Evelyn Evelyn—to be divisive, this video doesn't have her in it and it's very cute. We love a good animated clip here at the roundup, and this puts a nice little twist on the form.
